Unique Viral Marketing Strategy That Utilizes The News & Press Releases

By Michael Mayhew | Feb 22, 2006

While looking at the Top News Releases this morning, I ran across
this on the front page

“Angry Bond Fans Threaten to Boycott Film”

of Iwon.com in the Entertainment section.

I got curious and checked a couple more sites.

It’s also listed on the front page of the BBC.

I bet it will end up on CNN’s site before the day is over.

Well needless to say, I’m a HUGE James Bond fan! So I had to visit the site.

By now I’m sure your thinking, “Mike, What the heck has this got to do
with viral marketing?”

Well here’s what I found.

On this page http://www.craignotbond.com/boycott_casino_royale.html

their using a free service, Petitions Online.

Now that’s a cool way to get people to visit your site!

Of course you need a cause, controversy, or unique angle to use this.

My question is this.

How long before we see the “Craig Not Bond” coffee mugs & T-shirts?

I’m really surprised their not using LuLu.

With LuLU & Cafe Press anyone can monetize a web site using free publicity!
You can set-up products instantly.

Here’s their sites.

JibJab did this HUGELY with the Presidential news. Their viral angle is
their wacky free videos.

Their monetizing their site with Google Adsense, Pop-up Advertising, &
instant products as mentioned above.
Check out the JibJab Store.

They were ALL OVER the news, CNN, TV Print, you name it. For months!
