I've had one for a while, but can never seem to keep up with it.

http://twitter.com/RonKillian

I keep thinking it will be another thing to steal my time. Any one find that true?

I felt the same way as you. Finally signed up July 6th 2008. After 3 months I have over 1300 followers. When I post a Tweet the traffic surge is simply incredible. It's high quality too. I've tracked over $3,000 in sales from Twitter. It actually takes up very little time. I love it now.

Wow, thanks for sharing Michael. That's some good numbers, sure nothing to pass up. Guess that's why so many are doing it. I just catch myself so often wasting time on things I should'nt be wasting time on. Do you just post, or get into conversations? That was my other thought, keeping up with every one, could suck you in.

So the other question would be, how you got 1300 follows, well guess 3 months gives you some time to build it up.

Pick someone in the niche your after with alot of followers ie. http://twitter.com/johnreese
He has 6,077 followers. Click Following/View All. Start following his followers. Follow 5-600 in one day.
Wait a week. Un follow the ones who are not following back and start up where you left off. Follow 5-600 more. Rinse & repeat.

In the meantime, join and follow in these places:

Thanks for more great info Michael! All makes sense.

Curious though, when following so many, doesn't it make your home page a big never ending mess? I've already noticed some folks who are "noisey" (getting my twitter jargon down), do you stop following those types? Sounds like you need to go after more, than those that come to you?

Also, thanks for the links, I am going to start follow some of the bigger marketers.

I do have to say, with just a little effort, the followers do come.

I've been using TwitterFox for a while now - a firefox plugin.  Slowly getting up there.  I had a lot of fun making a profile background.  If you want to make one - take my background image and create a new one from it.

I've just started with my Twittter although I think I've had the account for some time.
Check it out here:
http://twitter.com/rplan
I follow people who have good things to say, not the ones who are addicted to twitter and write while in line at target, those just fill my page and I can't keep up with the great content.
